A: What will they think of next? B: Are you talking about that article this morning?

A: Yeah, it’s amazing. There is a fully automatic robot that monitors temperature fluctuations in the world’s oceans. B: Necessity is the mother of invention.

A: 그들이 다음번에는 뭘 생각해낼까요? B: 오늘 아침의 그 기사에 대해 얘기하는 건가?

A: 네, 놀라워요. 세계의 바다에서 온도 변동을 감시하는 전자동 로봇이 있다고 하네요. B: 필요는 발명의 어머니라네.

fluctuation은 (방향·위치·상황의)변동, 오르내림, (사람·마음의)동요 등의 뜻을 가진 명사이다. 어원은 ‘흐르다’라는 의미를 가진 라틴어 fluere에서 유래했다. 유의어로는 undulation, shift, vacillation 등이 있다.
