A: Please! I have done all my homework and helped with the dishes. I really want to go to the movie with Jill.

B: Okay. You have persuaded me. You can go to the movie.

A: 제발! 나 숙제도 다 했고 설거지도 도왔어요. Jill과 함께 영화를 너무 보고 싶어요.

B: 알겠어. 네가 날 설득시켰어. 영화 보러 갔다오렴.

 

persuade는 ‘~을 설득하다/ 설득해서 ~을 하도록 만들다.’라는 의미를 가지고 있는데, 여기서 per=throughly(완전히)의 의미이고 suade=sweet(달콤한)의 뜻이다. 즉, 누군가를 완전하게 달콤하게 설득시켜서 행동까지 하게한다는 의미다.
