A: We realize that this is difficult for you to accept, but it’s for the best.

B: No worries. I can understand how difficult it would be for you to tell me that.

A: 우리는 그것이 너가 받아들이기 어렵단 것을 알지만 그게 최선이야.

B: 걱정 하지마. 너가 그것을 나에게 말해주는 것이 얼마나 어려운지 이해할 수 있어.

 

realize : 원래 16세기 프랑스어 realiser에서 온 말로 뜻은 ‘make real’이다. 보통 fantasy, imagination, fiction, make-believe처럼 어떤 불분명하게(intangible) 보이는 것을 reality/actuality 확실하게(tangible) 보이도록 만드는 것을 의미한다. 즉, ‘깨닫다/꿈을 실현시키다’ 라는 의미이다. 중요한 동의어로는 fulfill/recognize가 있다.
